On the last night of Ramadan, in preparation for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, Muslim women around the world are generally doing three things:
- Cooking a feast (After 30 days of fasting, people wanna EAT!)
- Cleaning (You can’t have a party in a pigsty.)
- Doing henna (If they’re not too tired from the first two.)
I usually help my mom out with the cleaning and don’t always get around to doing henna. So for the past few years, my family has unintentionally created the tradition of doing henna on the day of Eid. And by family, I mean my cousins, sister, and I. It’s much more fun to do it when we’re all together anyway so we wait. Below are just a few designs I’ve done on my cousins’ hands in the past. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m not artsy enough to create my own designs. These are all based on searching online. My cousins each chose a design they wanted and I simply replicated it onto their hands. Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture of what I did on my own hand (but you can kind of see it in the picture above).

Wow, do I miss this! With the music going on in the background as you do our henna! I cherish those times, truly! I wish we were able to do it this Eid! Oh well, there’s always next Eid, insha’Allah! Speaking of this Eid, Ramadan is coming up in about five (or even less) months! Time flies!
Yes insha’Allah it’s approaching soon. And if all goes well, I’ll make it home. Maybe this year, we can actually do it the night before like a chand raat.
